About Mary
Mary K. Tedrow is a National Board Certified Teacher of English Language Arts/ Adolescence and Young Adulthood and holds a Doctor of Arts in English Pedagogy. She has twenty-six years of classroom experience and was the Frederick County Teacher of the Year and Endowed English Chair at John Handley High School. She is the Director of the Shenandoah Valley Writing Project, a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, served as a commissioner on the National Education Association Commission on Effective Teachers and Teaching, and is a charter member of the Center for Teaching Quality Teacher Leaders Forum (now the CTQ Collaboratory).
Mary has written for Teacher Magazine, Aspen Publishers, the National Writing Project Quarterly, and other outlets. Her past experience includes advertising copywriting for companies such as Rubbermaid and American Woodmark. She began blogging about education policy in 2007 at Walking to School.
